Love, Stargirl Quotes March 29, 2008

Disclaimer: I do not own the copyright of any of the two books: Stargirl and Love, Stargirl.

I absolutely love Jerry Spinelli’s books Stargirl and Love, Stargirl! Stargirl aka Susan Caraway is my hero. In a very weird and unexpected way, she saved me from an utterly meaningless and passionless life. The Stargirl book is like my sacred and holy book. I have read it a million times and I do not cease to find beauty in it.

And since I love it so much, I thought I’d share lines from the books which I think, feel and know speak some truth.

BOOK: Love, Stargirl

Stargirl

  • “We were once so fresh, a dazzling snowfield. Let’s promise to each other that if we ever meet again we will never plow and push our new-fallen snow. We will not become slush. We will stay like this field and melt away together only in the sun’s good time.”
  • “Tell me that even though our bodies were in separate states, our star selves shared an enchanted place.”

  1. Stargirl Says:

    Hi,

I changed my name to Stargirl. I didn’t feel like an Ella anymore. Too plain, boring, and definetly not me. I want to be so much like Stargirl, exactly the person she is. But it’s hard. Really hard.

I think everyone is a Star person, they just need to find their inner self. So let all of the stars in our sky shine just as bright to everyone as they shine bright to me.

    Love,
    Stargirl

Its good to see someone who sees the way I do.
Stargirl and Love, Stargirl just touched me. Although its extremely cheezy, it struck something within me.

But to the poster above me, I think that being “like stargirl” is not the point of stargirl. The stargirl is to be like no-one, and to be like everyone. It’s not to copy, but to just be.

  3. * Says:

I think the point is to think like Stargirl. See life the way she does. Live for today. Celebrate the things, like solstice, that everyone lets pass them by.
You have to mould Stargirl’s ways into yourself.
These books are truely amazing. They changed my life. Before them, I was miserable. I forgot what life could be about. Now I see it. I see everything.

  4. Tissue Girl Says:

I’m not like Stargirl. I’ll never be like Stargirl. But I just try to be my own magical self. I just try to embrace the starlight inside me and be someone real. It’s a real challenge but impossible.

  5. after i read that book i was more me than i ever have been and when ever i forget who i am i read it over again and it feels like everything i read is new again!

after i read it i couldnt beleive i ever tried to be anything but! and its a fun life. i met chris the hippie in a tree. now i have a pet racoon i found named sandwhich. and just to do something in honor of stargirl rather then my real self i never keep my change. i leave it in random places for people to find, expessially by gum machines and arcades.

but im not a saint like stargirl. the real me isnt a saint. sometimes ill glue one of those quaters to the floor. or catch some cotton balls on fire on the drive way. or steal stuff from my friends without them noticing and give it back to them for there birthdays! thats always fun! have the box of stolen stuff is filled with gum!

  6. Aly Says:

I think that Stargirl can relate to anyone. She does things that no one would think of. That’s just who she is.

I feel that if we all be true to ourself and true to the people around you (in a very nice way) that we could change the world for the better.

When I read this book I didn’t think of it as a story, I felt as if I were a character in the book.

Jerry Spinelli is an amazing author and I would give him 3 thumbs up if that was possible.

  7. Michaela Says:

Stargirl is definately an inspiration to everyone who reads her tale. I’ve been calling myself Snickerdoodle lately. :) hahhahaha no one should copy her but everyone should take her advice.

  8. ang Says:

stargirl is someone we all have a little inside us
but shes also something we want to have a greater knowledge of.
She’s someone we can act like we fully comprehend, but we also at the same time know nothing about her.
She’s someone we wish to mimic but don’t have the courage to.
She’s more human then most of us, but yet so much human that she becomes less then average human-kind itself.
And lastly, we wish to judge her, but not to judge ourselves.
This is what makes stargirl, stargirl [:

i have the 2nd book i dont find it as good as the first butr still great
iluv the characters in both books
    rock on
ps say rock on at the end of yur comment if u agree with me!!!

  11. I spent the entire second book cursing Leo. He does not deserve Susan’s love. She is hung up on him but he was the problem not her. They could not have been together and though that does not mean that they will not continue to love each other it was Leo that ultimately blew it. He should have been (as Jack White put it) a “martyr for their love”. He should have shut it down and walked away. It would have been the hardest thing he probably ever had done but it would have been the right things.

    “I’m beginning to like you
So you probably won’t get what I’m going to do
    I’m walkin’ away from you
It probably don’t make much sense to you
But I’m trying to save you
From all of the things that I’ll probably say or do”

  12. maria Says:

Stargirl is an incredible book, deeper than i was expecting. I don’t think the meaning of the story is to become Stargirl’s identical twin because you wouldn’t be your true self. It’s just a different perspective on life,a positive perspective and i think that’s the reason why this book has touched so many of us,we’re all trying to find the meaning of life and Stargirl seems to have it mastered. It’s comforting to know that there are star people out there.Well done Jerry Spinelli. You’re a wizard. :)

  13. Tissue Girl Says:

Wow. I’m so happy I didn’t delete my blog. I’m so touched by all your comments. I’ll try and get everything you guys said to Mr. Spinelli. Maybe through email or something.

I’m a tad older now. But there’s a stargirl in me that never ever dies. I hope all the people who love stargirl can come together for a camp. It would be a blast. We’d do all sorts of crazy nice things.

  14. Stargirl Says:

I TOO CHANGED MY NAME TO STARGIRL….AND SINCE THEN, I HAVE HAD THE BEST 10 MINUTES OF MY LIFE

  15. Anonymous Says:

Stargirl has changed my life. Has opened my life to new possibilities. Without my having read it, my life would have gone along a different path, without a doubt. Thank-you, Stargirl.

  16. I think my favourite Van Gogh painting would be Starry Night and I love the Don Mclean song Vincent which is about this painting.

  17. Me Says:

Both “Stargirl” and “Love, Stargirl” had such an impact on me. It made me see the world for what it is and it helped me find myself. This character made me confident in myself. I no longer care what others think or say about me. I do not try to hide anymore. I am just me. Not something someone else wants me to be. I am happy with myself. I’m glad that I had the chance of having to read the first book at school. I will always be gratful to Jerry Spinelli, and the Stargirl books. This book changed me. If I hadn’t read it then I don’t know who I’d be right now. Probably another clone of this world. Same as everybody else. Thank you Stargirl.

  18. Julienne Clare Says:

Stargirl is the only person who came from a book that changed my world completely.
    Thank you, Stargirl.

  19. Sara Says:

Your just like me. The Stargirl Series is absolutely the best book(s) I ever read. I say that about quite a few books but after I read the Stargirl books. I was depressed, apathetic, and I just wanted to give up on life. I was laying in bed thinking about sneaking out and finding a rope in the garage. I could easily tie it around one of the rafters and proceed to hang myself, never having to deal with the pain in life again. But then I thought about somthing a friend of mine said. Two simple words: stay positive. I know it sounds so easy but it really saved my life. That and the passage from “Love, Stargirl” that basically says to live for today, not for tomorrow. Today might totally suck, and all the days that lead up to that, but you should make tomorrow a new day. Make tomorrow better. These things helped me get over my depression.
